Re: Where is everybody??
Wed, September 2, 2009 - 6:37 AMJust me and my Djembe right now here in the woods but I am hoping the Internet will help me to arrange something. I would really like to travel and jam somewhere close but I don't know anyone close. I am in far western MD close to WV and WVU. Any suggestions on where one might find a circle or jam ??
Thanks ahead of time -

Re: Where is everybody??
Wed, September 2, 2009 - 6:23 PMyou can check out drumcircles.net, but it may not be very up to date.
or start your own circle! i'm doing that in a small desert town outside of LA...if there isn't community, someone's gotta build it!
i also had some luck finding drummers through a belly dancing troupe in the area.
peace and welcome!

Thu, September 3, 2009 - 5:04 AMMeetup.com
Search for drum groups in your area or start your own.
Tribe.net
Search for a tribe for your area code, zip code, or city. Then join the tribe and find drummers. -

Re: Where is everybody??
Sat, September 5, 2009 - 8:32 AMMeetup, the drum circle listings are good places to start. Google your area and "drum circles". When I was in LA (and still do) I would take group drumming classes and then meet other people in the class. We would then organize/ publicize a drum circle on a particular day (second sunday of the month) and if noboby showed up we would just practice what we learned in class. If people did show up we had enough rhythms down that it provided a solid foundation for whoever came to play.
If people know the drumming is solid they will come back and spread the word. It also helps to have a table and call it a potluck or whatever too. I prefer no alcohol around the circle, and I am a drinker. So maybe decide how you want the ideal vibe to be and do things to model that from day one. Make a few flyers for next months jam, so people have the impression its a solid consistent thing they can plan on. Get a website or email list or start a (your county/area)drumcirclelist@yahoogroups.com
good luck -
