Klong Yao Drum

I am a newbie and want to learn to drum. I wanted a Djembe and ended up with a Klong Yao made by Remo, not knowing any better. I really like the sound of the drum and its light weight. But I don't know how to hold it. I want to be able to sit and play but because it is so long, my hands are too high in the air. I have tried angling the bottom away from me. This puts the drum face facing me but I am afraid that the angle of my hands and arms will cause problems in my wrist.

I also noticed someone said that it is not good for drum circles which is what I want to participate in.

Any advise? Should I return this and get a more traditional Djembe?

Thanks!

I think its a long thin body on it, no? Maybe consider taking it back and getting something shorter. A djembe would be good Think about getting an adjustable stool or a folding chair that is your drum "throne" so you are ergonomic when playing any drum you want to be a part of.

I think the Klong yao is supposed to be played standing up with the neck tube through the legs? Someone ask Arthur!

I am starting to realize that the Klong Yao is not for me. I don't think I would be comfortable standing for long periods of time. Good idea about the throne! Thanks for your help!

It is a very tall drum and has a great sound. Totally fitting for a drum circle. We all have voices that are different and the circle is no exception.

I have been sitting more lately myself and this drum would not allow that at all, unless I had a stand that held the drum for me like a conga drum. It might have to be custom made, but I can see it happening, easily.

I agree about the sound, that is why I bought this drum. But I think I will return it for something that I can sit easily with (getting old!). Thanks for helping me out Andrew! Maybe when I get into this more I can have both kinds of drums!!
